Did you know there’s an award-winning elementary school choir program in your neighborhood? Durham Elementary School is proud to offer choir programs that foster musical talent, confidence, and teamwork for Kindergarten through 5th grade students. Our choir offerings span three age-based groups—Pawprint Choir, Pup Choir, and Spotlight Choir—each providing unique opportunities tailored to the developmental needs and abilities of our young singers. These choirs have become a vital part of our school’s culture and an inspiring source of pride for students, families, and the community. Most recently, the Spotlight Choir choir sang the National Anthem at a Rockets game!

Pawprint Choir: Introducing Music to Our Youngest Students (Kindergarten)

The Pawprint Choir is Durham’s introductory choir, designed for Kindergarten students. This program introduces foundational musical skills in a fun, supportive environment, helping our youngest students experience the joy of choir and the basics of vocal expression. Pawprint Choir members participate in a limited number of parent-focused performances throughout the year, setting the stage for a lifelong appreciation of music and ensemble singing.

Pup Choir: Growing Talent and Gaining Recognition (1st & 2nd Grades)

Our Pup Choir serves as an intermediate-level choir for 1st and 2nd-grade students, providing opportunities to refine vocal technique and musical skills. Pup Choir is a standout at the North Houston Children's Choral Festival, having won Best Primary Choir for three consecutive years. In addition to festival participation, the Pup Choir also shares their talents at several on-campus events, further enhancing their performance experience and representing Durham with pride.

Spotlight Choir: Advanced Performance Opportunities (3rd - 5th Grades)

The Spotlight Choir offers a more advanced choir experience for students in 3rd through 5th grades. This group participates in high-profile performances, including appearances at Houston Rockets and Dash games, and undertakes an annual Nursing Home and Community Tour during the holiday season. The Spotlight Choir also competes in the North Houston Children's Choral Festival and provides additional performances at on-campus events throughout the year, including a holiday concert. Students in the Spotlight Choir receive advanced instruction, enabling them to develop strong vocal skills and a professional stage presence.
